Updating of electrical equipment and automated control systems for mill 150.
Another stage of updating the electrical equipment and automated control systems for double-strand wire mill 150 was completed. The works involved replacement of control system for machines of the left and right strands from the 23rd mill stand up to the left and right pits.
The functions of two outmoded controllers Simatic S5-135U have been combined into one newly installed controller Simatic S5-300 (CPU 315-2PN/DP). The ready for quick installation distributed peripheral modules, based on distributed peripheral devices Odot (PRC), were installed into existent panels and local control stations for auxiliary machines and power supply systems of finish rolling units, pinch roll units and pits instead of obsolete devices ET100U. A total of 10 ready for quick installation modules were manufactured and delivered to the site.
To minimize the time it takes to introduce the updated automated control system into service, a complex of measures was developed that included using the existent field bus system to connect Odot modules to the new Simatic S5-300 controller.
In the course of design and manufacture of equipment and software development, the issues of integrating the new devices into existing automated process control system for wire production at mill 150 and ensuring data exchange with automated rolling tracking system were resolved.
According to the terms of the contract, the design works were supposed to be completed at the end of November, and the equipment for revamp was to be manufactured and delivered at the end of December 2023.
But, bearing in mind our long-term cooperation with AO «Beloretsk steel mill», our company’s top management had taken a decision to speed up the design work and reduce the production and delivery time of equipment, which allowed to begin works on putting the equipment into operation during the scheduled overhaul of mill 150 in September 2023.
A vast experience of our enterprise in carrying out such revamps under the conditions of production being in progress, as well as dedicated service and qualified assistance of the operating shopfloor personnel of «Beloretsk Steel Mill» had made it possible to successfully dismantle, install, adjust and commission a complex equipment package during a scheduled overhaul repair period.
