Manufacturing and commissioning of three sets of control containers for a 200 t derrick drawwork unit. 

Electrical equipment with a control system is located in heat-insulated container unit KTU—VLB. The container includes the following main equipment: 

  • — Switchgear unit (a single-end service assembled chamber) 6kV, 630A;
  • — Dry-type converter transformer 6/2×0,69kV, 1600kVA;
  • — Assembly of cabinets of a multi-motor frequency converter for controlling the main drive of a drawwork and a rotor, based on converters of «VARIANT-AC» product line by AO ASC (Joint Stock Company);
  • — Assembly of control cabinets for auxiliary machines of a derrick drawwork unit;
  • — Master controller cabinet based on PLC of S7-1500 series by Siemens.

To control the speed and torque of electric motors of a drawwork and a rotor, a group multi-motor drive is applied, implemented on basis of frequency converters of «VARIANT» product line by AO ASC, which also uses the rectifier and inverter modules of MD880 series by Inovance. The converter assembly includes two independent input cabinets with each input rated for 1000A, a common rectifier consisting of 2 rectifier modules with a total power of 1,8MW and two control cabinets with inverters (each inverter cabinet includes three inverter modules with a total power of 1500kW). The converter also includes a common three-phase brake module (chopper), with a continuous dissipated power of 1300 kW. The common rectifier unit is built on basis of two modules MD880-20M-0815-7 (900kW, 998А). The cabinets with control inverters (for a drawwork and a rotor) include three inverter modules of MD880-50M-0530-7 type (500 kW, 530A), while operation at a reduced power is envisaged if one of the modules becomes faulty.

To control the auxiliary machines, the soft starters of ESQ series are applied, while the frequency converters of MD880 series by Inovance are used for variable-speed drives.

To control the main drives of a derrick and drawwork unit, an independent automated control system (ACS) is provided, based on controller S7-1500 by Siemens and distributed peripheral stations by Odot. The automated control system is designed to control the main and emergency drives of a drawwork, the rotor drive and auxiliary machines of main drives of a derrick drawwork unit in manual and semi-automatic mode. It is also intended for control of interlocks and parameters, as well as for display and archiving of the required parameters.

The following automatic functions are implemented:09.01.2025-1

  • — automatic start (stop) of auxiliary systems of a drawwork and a rotor (lubrication, ventilation, heating) at start-up (stop) of the main drives;
  • — implementation of a drilling control mode on both the main and emergency drives of a drawwork, along with setting the drilling rate and maintaining the pressure on the drilling bit;
  • — automatic stop of a travelling block at preset top and bottom points;  
  • — automatic braking and holding the weight on the hook with a drawworks motor;
  • — automatic tracking of current value of the weight on the hook and relevant lockout if the weight is exceeded;
  • — process parameter monitoring and output of warning and emergency messages (shutdowns).
