Upgrading of wheel rolling mill.
In the first quarter of 2026 the ASC specialists performed commissioning and put into operation, after completing the warranty tests successfully, the new DC converters for main electric motors of a top and bottom roll of a wheel rolling mill in a wheel rolling shop of AO VMZ (Joint Stock Company).
The SVPR-2500-1050 sections, manufactured by JSC ASC, were used as power sections for the converters. At the end customer’s request the equipment by Siemens, namely, S7-300 and Sinamics DCM CM, was used as automation and control equipment. This project was distinctive of specific terms of reference with regard to complete redundancy of electrical power equipment: two new converters per roll (the main and the standby one), as well as integration of existing complete thyristor converters as emergency ones into the power circuit.
The remarkable thing is that through the use of digital drives and by changing the acceleration and braking diagrams it became possible to increase productivity of the entire rail wheel production line to 152 product units per hour.
