Rebuilding of induction furnace IAT-6.
The furnace is intended for molten aluminum preparation for rolling from the molten condition plants. Furnace efficiency – 1,6 MW, output – 6 tons during 5 hours of melting. Rebuilding consisted in upgrading of furnace operation control systems, namely:
- — automatic maintaining of furnace efficiency depending on molten metal temperature by means of feed transformer tap changing;
- — automatic maintaining of power factor, close to 1, by means of power correcting capacitor section switching.
«Siemens» controller was used to solve the afore-mentioned tasks. Control algorithms were developed by CJSC «ASC» specialists. Apart from solving the problems relating to control, the obsolete power units, namely, the capacitor section switching contactors, were updated too. Rebuilding was performed during furnace shutdown period that lasted for 10 days.
