Upgrading of automated speed rate control system and gage and tension control systems for mill 1700 at PAO «Severstal», the town of Cherepovets.
In December 2023 the certificate of inspection of guaranteed performance was signed at PAO «Severstal» for a continuous 5-stand cold strip-rolling mill «1700», speed rate control system and a suite of automatic gage and tension control systems.
The works on upgrading the automated speed rate control system and automated gage and tension control systems were completed.
The functions of speed rate control system and gage and tension control systems of Simadyn D controller, which had been taken out of service, were transferred to multiprocessor system Simatic TDC controlling the hydraulic screwdown mechanisms of the mill, installed in the course of the previous upgrading stage that was undertaken by AO «ASC» in 2021-2022. Such solution allowed to minimize the costs associated with purchasing of the new equipment – only the distributed peripheral station ET200SP, which signals were introduced into a new system using Profinet, was installed into the existing cabinet instead of Simadyn D.
The whole scope of works, including integration of new speed rate and gage and tension control systems, exchange of data with existing related and higher-level automated control systems, human-machine interface (HMI) system of the mill, was performed during periods of monthly scheduled maintenance of the mill, without changes in mill productivity and production orders.
Successful completion of works two months earlier as compared to the timeframe stipulated in the contract became possible owing to «ASC» experience in carrying out similar reconstructions with the production process being in progress, and also substantial aid with the tryout of communications with related systems and with the system debugging on the part of specialists of process automation department of PAO «Severstal» — Gennady Anfinogenov, Konstantin Bosykh, Alexey Kudryashov, as well as owing to efficient coordination of scope of work and organization of work within each of the upcoming monthly scheduled maintenance periods by managerial personnel of the workshop and by managerial staff of PAO «Severstal».
